Lee Thomas was the lead singer of the 90’s boy band 2wo Third3, he was the lead vocalist on their hits “I Want the World”, “I Want to Be Alone”, “Ease the Pressure” and “Hear Me Calling”. 2wo Third3 (pronounced “Two Thirds”) were a four piece 1990s electropop group fronted by lead vocalist Lee Thomas, with his two backing vocalists/dancers, and one non-performing songwriting member Richard Stannard. The band were managed by East 17 / Bros manager Tom Watkins and they were signed to Sony Music UK’s Epic Records label.

They had four UK Top Chat Hits during the mid-1990s.

  • “I Want the World” (Epic Records/Sony Music – 1994) – UK No. 20
  • “I Want to Be Alone” (Epic Records/Sony Music – 1994) – UK No. 29
  • “Ease the Pressure” (Epic Records/Sony Music – 1994) – UK No. 45
  • “Hear Me Calling” (Epic Records/Sony Music – 1994) – UK No. 48

They were called 2wo Third3 because out of the performing members, the two backing vocalists/dancers dressed in identical clothing usually with rubber gloves whilst the frontman and lead singer Lee Thomas did not, instead opting to wearing his trademark bowler hat & 2wo Third3 plaster on his face (this being pre-Nelly), and yes thankfully Lee Thomas still has the original bowler hat.

Richard Stannard was always represented by a cartoon character named “Biff”, who appeared in the band’s promotional material and record covers. The design aspect of the band was very important, with customised yellow rubber gloves being sent out with promotional records, and a free Biff plaster being issued to fans. Richard would go on to become a songwriter for many other groups including 5ive and The Spice Girls amongst others.

The band supported East 17 on their “Around the World” tour in 1994, appeared on Top of The Pops, and performed on the Smash Hits Tour, and many more.

In 2007 Lee Thomas (a.k.a. 4th child), was signed by Hit! Records, and had a club / chart hit with “Now I Found You” in March of that year.

In 2023 Sony Music finally released the 2wo Third3 back catalogue on digital platforms. Lee Thomas, who now lives in South Wales has established himself as an artist in his own right and with a new single set to be released later this year the future is looking bright for Lee Thomas.
